Pitching my Passion: how did I get here?

I took a PR class on accident. Shoutout to Kevin Brett.

"Write a press release for this event."

"You'll be doing a trade show at the end of the quarter."

"Do a SWOT and PEST analysis for this client."

"You might want to start a blog."

I knew from the get-go that I wanted to study some sort of communications field - I have a passion for writing, people, and business. When I went to community college I figured: I have some time. Let me take these gen ed's, dip into a few communication courses and see what happens.

After graduating from CC I still found myself confused. Should I get a communication studies major and a business minor? Vice versa? Idk.

Coming to Central, I had my heart set on a communication studies degree. I signed up for "Intro to Public Relations," seeing that it was a communications class and fit right in the time frame I needed, so I clicked enroll.

I entered that Intro to PR class confused as hell. Today, I'm the VP of Professional Development with my awesome team at CWU PRSSA, the Director of Publicity for CWU Student Alumni Association, was previously enrolled in the Central Communication Agency, and I've have held multiple internships where I get to further my passion for PR.

So what makes me so passionate?

Up until coming to Central, I have genuinely disliked school. I know what you're thinking, everyone says that. No but like FORRREALLL. I fell asleep everyday during AP Stats in highschool. And I flunked two classes at my community college.

I cannot express how cool it is to be studying something I honestly, truly enjoy. Learning this stuff is actually exciting.

Not only that, but I've also met some really amazing people. Best friends, roommates, teammates, peers, mentors - you name it.

Sooo incredibly thankful for the opportunities that have presented themselves to me these past two years. Personally and professionally, thank you CWU and PRSSA to allow me to grow and fall more in love with what I do.
