Zendaya Speaks Out About Photoshopped Photo That is Half Her Size
Zendaya Coleman, a 19-year-old model, singer, and actress, was unfortunately had to deal with a retouched photo that had gone too far. Modeliste Magazine received a lot of backlash for revising photos of Zendaya that made her torso and thighs look much thinner than they do in real life. The backlash itself did not come from the public, but from Zendaya herself. Dismayed, she then took the edited photo and the original photo and put them side-by-side for her entire follower base to see on Instagram.

“Had a new shoot come out today and was shocked when I found my 19-year-old hips and torso quite manipulated. These are the things that make women self conscious, that create the unrealistic ideals of beauty that we have. Anyone who knows who I am knows I stand for honest and pure self love. So I took it upon myself to release the real pic (right side) and I love it."

Being a strong advocate for body positivity and self-love, Zendaya has gone to social media to express her frustrations with altered images or individuals negatively commenting on her natural appearance. Zendaya’s Instagram post had more than 665,000 likes by that afternoon, and has more than 865,000 likes to date. In response to Zendaya, Modeliste took immediate action by posting a letter that same afternoon from the Editor-in-Chief, Amy McCabe, apologizing and saying that she will be pulling the magazine to "have the images restored to their original, natural state."

“Upon review of the final edited images which had been submitted to us by an independent editing company, together, as a collaboration between myself, Zendaya and her parents, we concluded that the images had been retouched to an extent that was not acceptable and not true to the values and ideals we represent and promote in our publication. I, therefore, made the executive decision to immediately pull the issue in order to have this rectified and have the images restored to their original, natural state which will reflect the true beauty and radiance of Zendaya."
– Amy McCabe, Editor-in-Chief of Modeliste.
The magazine promised to later release the unedited versions of the photos and in the new issue, it is apparent how stunning Zendaya is naturally, without the help of Photoshop. The original issue had severely transformed her form – taming her hair, slimming her waist, and thinning her thighs – while the new issue shows her true, still beautiful, appearance.
