3 PR Lessons We Can Learn... From Beyoncé

Who run the world?

We all know who Beyoncé is, right? Multi-platinum, Grammy-award-winning recording artist, actress, and wife of famous rapper Jay-Z? Yeah, that's the one.

What we don't realize is how Beyoncé and her advancement in the music industry can actually teach us a great deal about public relations and strategic communication.

1. don't be afraid to Take risks.

Beyoncé revealed her project Lemonade after an HBO special in April 2016. Not only was the project a risk in itself, but Beyoncé went through with a surprise release of this album, which she had done before with her self-titled album in 2013. With Lemonade, she exclusively released this to Tidal and no other online music streaming service.

Although there was no promise or guarantee that Lemonade was going to be successful (even though we all know it was going to be, let's be honest). This was a risk Beyoncé was willing to take - and in exchange, the reward made it all worth it.

She is obviously an innovator in the music industry and Beyoncé's brand is incomparable.

2. Use your platform and use it wisely.

Let's just take a second to recognize what Beyoncé's Lemonade stands for. In the visual album, there was a clip of a Malcom X speech saying, “the most disrespected woman in America is the black woman, the most unprotected woman in America is the black woman, the most neglected woman in America is the black woman.” In a time of negligence in America, this project showed society not only the mistreatment, but the resilience of Black America - specifically women.

Beyoncé, along with plenty of other women in the industry, have positively used their status to influence change in society.

3. Be consistent.

Beyoncé has been providing us with record-breaking performances/tours, and multi-platinum, Grammy-award-winning records since she began her career at the age of seven. (Can you tell I'm obsessed with her yet?) With everything she has done throughout her life, she is constantly delivering the best form of herself to her audience.

It's fascinating and inspiring to see how Beyoncé continuously escalates her brand - and is particularly impressive for someone who has been in the industry for some time. I think we all can learn a thing or two from Queen B.
